Spain closed its Golden Visa on 3 April 2025, and no property or capital investment now leads to residency. We say this plainly because families are still being offered it. What remains is a set of residence visas based on who you are rather than what you invest: your income, your remote work, your business plan or your children’s studies.

The non-lucrative visa is the route most of our clients choose: it asks for a stable passive income and private health insurance, and leads to long-term residence after five years and citizenship after ten. Remote workers, entrepreneurs and families placing children in Spanish schools each have a visa of their own.

How it works

Who can be included

Spouse or partner and dependent children can be included; parents can join where the family shows sufficient additional income for them.

  1. A consultant reviews your income, work and family situation and matches you to the visa that fits.
  2. We compile the file: proof of income or contracts, private health insurance, clean-record certificates, and the family’s legalised and translated documents.
  3. The application is filed at the Spanish consulate in your country of residence, or in Spain for the routes that allow it.
  4. Once the visa is issued you travel to Spain and register your address with the local town hall.
  5. You apply for the residence card (TIE) and give fingerprints at the police appointment we book for you.
  6. The permit is renewed while the conditions are maintained, leading to long-term residence at five years.

Questions people ask

Talk to a consultant: Assess my case

Can I still get the Spanish Golden Visa?

No. The investor residency programme ended on 3 April 2025 and no new applications are accepted. Buying property in Spain no longer gives any residence right, and we do not offer it.

Can I work with the non-lucrative visa?

No. It is designed for people living on income earned outside Spain, such as pensions, rents, dividends or savings. After a year it can be changed to a work permit from inside Spain.

Do I have to live in Spain?

Yes. The non-lucrative visa is renewed only if you spend more than 183 days a year in Spain, which also makes you a Spanish tax resident; we review the tax position with you before you apply.

When can I apply for citizenship?

After ten years of legal residence for most nationalities, with Spanish language and civic tests, and after two years for nationals of Ibero-American countries. Spain generally requires giving up your previous nationality.
